Vacancy for a Judicial Registrar - Trial Division

The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Victoria, the Honourable Marilyn Warren AC, seeks expressions of interest from qualified persons for appointment as a Judicial Registrar of the Supreme Court.

Judicial Registrars are members of the Court, appointed by the Governor in Council on the recommendation of the Attorney-General, who exercise delegated judicial functions. All expressions of interest are treated confidentially.

The Judicial Registrar - Trial Division will undertake interlocutory work across the Common Law Division and Commercial Court as provided under the Rules of Court and on referral from Associate Judges and Judges of the Court.

In addition the position will have a particular focus on judicial mediations and other forms of dispute resolution. The Judicial Registrar will support Associate Judges and Judges in the development of the Court’s model for judicial mediation, including the management and listing of matters and the implementation of reform initiatives. The Judicial Registrar will also be called upon to undertake the functions of other specialist judicial registrar positions within the Court from time to time. These specialist positions are allocated to the Court of Appeal, the Criminal Division of the Court, the Costs Court and Funds in Court.

The position requires a legally qualified (admitted for not less than 5 years), highly motivated leader with outstanding professional experience and demonstrated understanding of court processes. It also requires superior communication skills, and the ability to make timely decisions according to law. Experience and expertise in mediation is highly desirable.
