Courts Open Day
The Supreme Court opens its doors to the public every year in May as part of Courts Open Day, a highlight event of Law Week.
Visitors are able to explore the Court’s architecturally and historically significant heritage-listed building, take a tour of the dungeons, learn how a trial works, join a discussion, and meet staff and judges.
A collaboration between Victorian courts and tribunals, Courts Open Day aims to demystify the courts system and provide a rare behind the scenes look at the Supreme Court, County Court, Magistrates Court and VCAT.
Law Week is an annual event organised by the Victoria Law Foundation. To find out more about Law Week, visit Everyday-Law (External link).
Congratulations to Arlene Smith, who was the lucky 2016 winner of a private dungeon tour for six people.
Open House Melbourne
The Supreme Court opens its doors to the public every July as part of Open House Melbourne.
Curious Victorians are encouraged to come and explore the state’s highest court to see where the most serious criminal cases and most complex civil cases are heard.
Heritage tours of the Court run throughout the day and the ever-popular dungeon tours are held for those keen to see what lies beneath the Supreme Court.
