Kilmore East Kinglake Black Saturday bushfire class action settlement

The parties to the Kilmore East Kinglake Black Saturday bushfire class action agreed to settle on 15 July 2014, after more than 200 court sitting days before Justice J Forrest.

The application for the Court’s approval of the Kilmore East Kinglake Black Saturday bushfire class action settlement was heard before Justice Osborn on 24 and 25 November 2014. On 23 December 2014, his Honour approved the settlement.

Court supervision of the settlement distribution process

Since the terms of settlement were approved, the Court has held case management conferences on 15 April 2015, 19 June 2015, 20 October 2015, 31 March 2016 and 21 June 2016 to supervise the settlement distribution process.

Below is a ruling following the first case management conference, which explains the progress of the SDS thus far, and the orders to the Court has made in the course of the supervision process.
