Certificate of Good Standing
Certificates of Good Standing
This Certificate is required by practitioners as evidence that they are currently enrolled in the Victorian Supreme Court Roll of Barristers and Solicitors, so that they may practise interstate or overseas.
To obtain a Certificate of Good Standing the following is required:
- Original "Letter of Fitness" from the Law Institute of Victoria. This letter should not be more than 28 days old. Contact the Law Institute on 9607 9311 or visit their website at www.liv.asn.au. Request that this letter be forwarded to the Admission Clerk to expedite the process;
- A covering letter setting out the applicant's full name at the date of admission, the correct date of admission, return address details and why the applicant requires the Certificate. The covering letter should be addressed to the address at the bottom of this page.
- A cheque, money order or bank draft for the prescribed fee made payable to the Supreme Court of Victoria. Print your name, phone number and address at the back of the cheque, money order or bank draft. The Supreme Court does not accept credit card or EFT payments. Please refer to the Prothonotary's Fees under related publications for the prescribed fee;
Please note that both the Letter of Fitness (Law Institute) and the Certificate of Good Standing (Supreme Court) are valid for 28 days only. It is normal for an application to take three weeks to be processed. Once the application has been completed the Certificate of Good Standing will be sent via registered post.
To Obtain a Certified Copy of your Admission Certificate:
- Follow the above steps;
- Include an Affidavit outlining the reasons you require a certified copy (for example lost or damaged);
