Practice Notes & Statements

Trial Division

Practice Notes are issued with the authority of the Chief Justice. They supplement the procedures set out in the Rules of the Supreme Court. Although unlike the Rules they do not have legislative force, they have as their principal aim the assistance of practitioners and other Court users. The Court expects that, in general, litigation will be conducted in conformity with them. Failure to do so may attract a penalty.

Notices to Practitioners

Notices to Practitioners are designed to assist practitioners and others involved in litigation in a Specialist List to understand and conform to the particular practices of that List. In general they are issued by or on the initiative of the Judge-in-Charge of the list. It can be assumed they are ancillary to any relevant Practice Note and that any step taken in accordance with such a notice will be deemed to be appropriate.

Court of Appeal - Practice Statements
