To mark the Supreme Court’s first appearance at the new Shepparton Law Courts, Chief Justice Ferguson and Justices Osborn and Beach will begin proceedings with a special ceremonial sitting.

The ceremony will begin at 9.15am on Monday, 16 April 2018 and will include a Welcome to Country from Robert Nicholls with addresses from Chief Justice Ferguson, Dr Matt Collins QC, President of the Victorian Bar Association, and Ms Kaz Gurney, Managing Lawyer of the Goulburn Valley Community Legal Centre.

Normal Court of Appeal proceedings will begin at 10.30am in the matter of Minh Luu v The Queen.

The Shepparton Law Courts were officially opened on Friday 23 March by The Honourable Martin Pakula MP, Attorney-General, in the presence of the Chief Magistrate Peter Lauritsen.

The new $73 million building sets the standard for future regional court buildings, supporting the functions of a modern multi-jurisdictional facility that will contribute to improving access to justice for the Shepparton community.

The purpose-built courthouse supports the needs of all jurisdictions and provides more accessible and responsive services for regional Victoria. The design enables the Supreme, County, Magistrates', Children's and Coroner's Courts, and the Victorian Civil Administrative Tribunal, and the Federal Circuit Court to hold sittings locally.
