Have you been summoned for jury service?

If you have been summoned for jury service, or would like to know more about the jury process, please visit the Juries Victoria Website.

A jury is a group of citizens randomly chosen from the Victorian electoral register who together decide the outcome of particular cases. Juries are required for criminal trials, and some civil trials, in the Supreme Court.

Jurors for criminal trials

In the Supreme Court criminal trials are heard before a judge and jury of 12 people. The jury decides the facts in the case and applies the law (as explained by the judge) to those facts to decide whether the accused person is guilty or not guilty.

Jurors for civil trials

In a civil trial, the role of the jury, made up of six members, is to decide whether the plaintiff (the person bringing the action or 'suing' the other party) has established their claim.
