Mr Sam Hay KC has been appointed as a judge of the Supreme Court of Victoria.

Mr Sam Hay KC has been appointed as a judge of the Court, effective 21 April 2026.

Over the course of his career as a barrister, Mr Hay has appeared in commercial, corporate and common law matters, and before royal commissions and commissions of inquiry.

Before his appointment as a judge of the Trial Division, he served as Chair of the Victorian Legal Services Board and Commissioner, as well as the Junior Vice President of the Australian Bar Association.

Mr Hay first signed the Victoria Bar Roll in 2002 and was appointed Senior Counsel in 2019. He was President of the Victorian Bar from November 2022 until November 2023. Between October 2017 and November 2022 Mr Hay was a member of the Victorian Legal Admissions Committee. 

He will sit predominantly in the Common Law Division.

The Supreme Court congratulates Justice Hay on the appointment.
