The Supreme Court of Victoria and the County Court of Victoria are inviting legal service providers to provide responses to a draft proposal for a time-based costing regime, and to complete a survey about the rates that they charge for their legal services.

As part of the stage one implementation of the Report on Litigious Costs, the Supreme Court of Victoria and the County Court of Victoria are inviting legal service providers to consider the Consultation Paper, available for download below.

The Consultation Paper contains a draft proposal for a time-based costing regime, replacing the Scale of Costs as a basis for party/party costs recovery in Victoria. Legal service providers are invited to make submissions on the proposed regime's design and implementation to fhozvffvbaf@fhcpbheg.ivp.tbi.nhua.vog.civ.truocpus@snoissimbus

Separately, the Courts invite legal service providers to complete a survey to provide information on the rates that they charge for their legal services. The survey includes questions about a firm’s geographic location, size and main area/s of practice. The survey should take no longer than 5-10 minutes and is completely anonymous. Complete the survey now.

Responses to the Consultation Paper and Survey will assist the Courts in formulating a new method of taxation which is transparent, cost-effective and an efficient means of party/party costs recovery for successful litigants. It will have no bearing on solicitor/client taxations.

The Courts seek responses to the Consultation Paper and Survey by 3 February 2023.
