Summary of Justice Bell's sentencing remarks delivered on 16 November 2018.

Justice Kevin Bell has sentenced Tony John Smith to 13 years’ imprisonment with a non-parole period of 10 years for the manslaughter of Karen Rae on 15 April 2015.

“All women (and Karen in particular) have an inviolable human right to life, to equality – not just the appearance of equality but to real equality – to physical and emotional integrity, to respect for the dignity of their humanity and to personal autonomy, and to freedom from fear of physical or mental harm at the hands of men,” Justice Bell said.
