The Court welcomes the appointment of Dr Stephen Donaghue KC to the Court of Appeal.
Dr Donaghue’s appointment is effective 27 January 2026.
Dr Donaghue served as Solicitor-General of Australia since 2017, a role which included appearing before the Full Court of the High Court in more than 150 matters, and four appearances at the International Court of Justice.
Before his move to Canberra, Dr Donaghue spent 16 years at the Victorian Bar, where he took silk in 2014 and specialised in public law. Dr Donaghue has a PhD from Oxford University, is a member of the Permanent Court of Arbitration at The Hague, and is a former Supreme Court Prize recipient.
The Court warmly congratulates Dr Donaghue on his appointment.
