The Supreme Court of Victoria congratulates Justice Kyrou on his appointment as a judge of the Federal Court of Australia with effect from 8 June 2023 and as President of the Administrative Appeals Tribunal with effect from 9 June 2023.

Justice Kyrou AO was appointed a judge of the Supreme Court in May 2008, where he served in the Common Law Division until his appointment to the Court of Appeal in 2014.

Before joining the Court, his Honour was a senior litigation partner in the international legal firm that is now known as King & Wood Mallesons. 

His Honour graduated from the University of Melbourne with a Bachelor of Commerce degree (1981) and Bachelor of Laws (Honours) degree (1982). As the top law graduate, he was the recipient of the Supreme Court Prize, which is awarded to the highest performing law student each year. 

Justice Kyrou was awarded the Gold Cross of the Order of Honour in 2015 by the President of the Hellenic Republic for service to the Greek-Australian community. In the 2023 Australia Day Honours, he was appointed an Officer (AO) of the Order of Australia ‘for distinguished service to the judiciary and to the law, to professional associations, and to the community’.
