The next President of the Court of Appeal has been appointed.

The Supreme Court of Victoria warmly welcomes the appointment of Justice Rowena Orr as President of the Court of Appeal.

Justice Orr will commence the role on 29 September 2026, succeeding Justice Karin Emerton who is retiring on 28 September 2026.

Justice Orr has served as a Court of Appeal judge since April 2024. Prior to that, her Honour served as Solicitor-General for Victoria for almost three years.

Her Honour practised as a barrister for approximately 22 years, and was appointed as Senior Counsel in November 2014. During that time Justice Orr had senior roles in two Royal Commissions – the Royal Commission into Misconduct in the Banking, Superannuation and Financial Services Industry in 2018-2020 and Victoria’s Royal Commission into Family Violence in 2015.

Justice Orr will be the fourth President of the Court of Appeal.
