On Wednesday 20 May the Supreme Court hosted a lunch to celebrate the dedicated team of volunteers across the Courts Education Program and Court Network during National Volunteer Week.
National Volunteer Week is Australia’s largest annual celebration of volunteering, highlighting the important role of volunteers in our community.
Along with 25 volunteers, the celebration was attended by judicial officers and associates who take part in the education program, and CEO Mick Carroll. Education and Engagement Officer, Christina Varcoe, coordinated the event and welcomed everyone before inviting Mick to say a few words.
“We recognise the extraordinary contribution our volunteers make to the Education Program. Their dedication brings the justice system to life for thousands of students each year. And through their care and commitment, the Court Networkers help individuals and families to better understand and navigate their experience in court,” he said.
The Education Team is made up of 15 volunteers, who help deliver the Courts Education Program in the Supreme Court. The Education Team goes above and beyond to ensure students have a positive experience at the Court and court proceedings are not disrupted. The Court would not be able to run the Education Program without their commitment and generosity.
Court Network volunteers, or ‘Networkers’ as they are known, assist individuals and families as they navigate the court process by offering information, support and referral services. Over the past year, Networkers have supported thousands of people across the courts, explaining what to expect during hearings, helping court users find their way around courthouses, and providing support to family members and other observers in criminal trial proceedings.
We thank our volunteers for their wonderful work and appreciate their commitment all year round.
