The Supreme Court of Victoria congratulates Justice Matthews and Justice Gray on their appointments as judges of the Supreme Court, effective 14 June 2023.

The Court warmly welcomes the appointments of the Honourable Justice Peter Robert Darling Gray as a judge in the Common Law Division and the Honourable Justice Patricia Anne Matthews as a judge in the Commercial Court. 

Justice Gray joined the Victorian Bar in 1996, and took Silk in 2011. He has a background in commercial litigation and public law litigation, and has appeared for regulators or regulated entities in Federal Court and the Supreme Court in energy-related cases.

Justice Matthews previously served as an associate justice at the Court from 15 December 2020, and prior to that as a judicial registrar since 23 January 2017. Before arriving at the Court, Justice Matthews was Special Counsel at King Wood & Mallesons, with 14 years of extensive experience as a practising solicitor in commercial litigation and dispute resolution.
