Notice to the Profession - Commercial Court Short/Expedited Cases List was published on 22 September 2025.

The Chief Justice authorised the issuing of notice to the profession establishing a Short/Expedited Cases List in the Commercial Court's new list.

The purpose of the Short/Expedited Cases list is to identify matters which may be suitable for or require:

  1. an earlier trial date because the matter only requires a trial of short duration (Short Case)
  2. or an expedited trial (being a matter which is urgent but too long to be heard and determined by the duty judge
     (Expedited Case).

Cases in the Short/Expedited Cases List are expected to require a trial of no more than 3 days.

Short Cases will enter the list either during the case allocation process, on application by the parties or on referral from the managing judge.

Expedited Cases will enter the list upon application by one or both of the parties or on referral from the Duty Judge.

Entry into the Short/Expedited Cases List will require approval from the Principal Judge of the Commercial Court.

Application forms for entry into the Short/Expedited Cases List are attached to the Notice to the Profession. Parties should familiarise themselves with the requirements of the forms and the Notice to the Profession before making any application.

The Short/Expedited Cases List came into effect on 22 September 2025.
