The annual report was published after being tabled in Parliament last week.

The Supreme Court of Victoria’s 2024-25 annual report was tabled in Parliament on 4 December 2025. Read the report here

Points of interest include: 

  • Overall case numbers across the Court increased by 9.6 per cent. Notably, civil cases brought before the Court of Appeal increased by 17.1 per cent. 
  • The Criminal Division delivered a clearance rate of 168 per cent. Fast-track committals continue to reduce overall case duration, with an average of 4.1 months saved from date of charge to finalisation for fast-tracked committals. 
  • In the Civil Division, judicial mediation saved 1,484 trial days, and millions of dollars in legal costs for litigants. Mediations in the Costs Court saved a further 381 days. 
  • The number of hearings in the Associate Judges’ Chambers Applications List and Specialist Lists grew by 26.4 per cent to 10,747 hearings since last year. 

During the reporting period the Court made significant upgrades to its digital and technological systems, aimed at enhancing accessibility for all Court users and the wider community.  

“This report demonstrates many initiatives that the Court has undertaken to continuously improve and evolve the way that we work, and the judiciary and staff’s commitment to improved efficiencies for better utilisation of resources,” Chief Justice Richard Niall said.  

“The Court also continued to strengthen its focus on community, with the report reflecting on how the Court engaged with the public outside of the courtroom to develop the community’s understanding of the work of the Court.” 

“We thank everyone, including judicial officers, staff, the legal community and Court Services Victoria who continued to help us achieve these outcomes in 2024-25.”
