The Supreme Court of Victoria conducts admission ceremonies throughout the year. They take place when new lawyers are admitted to practise Australian law and are welcomed to the profession. The ceremonies are held in Banco - courtroom 1 - and can be watched live via webcast. Each ceremony is recorded and published below on the following days. Older recordings can be viewed via the archived ceremonies video portal

The Chief Justice extends her warmest congratulations to all new lawyers on their admission to practise.

Note on photography: after the ceremony, there will be an opportunity to take photos in the courtyard and Law Library for 40 minutes. However, photography is not permitted in any other area of the Court. Please follow the guidance notices posted around the entrances to Banco.

Orders admitting lawyers 'on the papers'

During the COVID-19 pandemic, a process was developed to allow admissions to occur ‘on the papers’ by order of the Chief Justice. Pursuant to this process, the Chief Justice makes orders admitting the applicants named in the Schedule of each order to practise as Australian lawyers and officers of the Supreme Court of Victoria. The signatures of the named applicants are then entered on the Supreme Court roll.

The Court resumed in-person admission ceremonies in April 2022. However, new lawyers seeking admission will continue to have the option to be admitted ‘on the papers’.

For more information, see Orders admitting new lawyers to practise.
