Admission ceremonies
The Supreme Court of Victoria conducts admission ceremonies admitting suitably qualified people as Australian lawyers. Those admitted are then welcomed to the legal profession. The ceremonies are held in the Banco Court (courtroom 1). They can be watched via livestream.
Details about upcoming admission ceremonies, including links to the livestreamed proceedings, are published in the News section of our website about one week before the ceremony.
New lawyers seeking admission have the option to be admitted ‘on the papers’. Rather than attending the admission ceremony, orders admitting these applicants to practise as Australian lawyers and officers of the Supreme Court of Victoria are made by the Chief Justice, with the signatures of the applicants then entered on the Supreme Court roll. Scroll to the bottom of this page for recent orders admitting lawyers on the papers.
Applying for admission
The Victorian Legal Admissions Board (VLAB) regulates entry to the legal profession in Victoria. For further information, and to make an application for admission, visit the VLAB online application portal.

- or a duplicate admission certificate

Watch recent admission ceremonies
Court footage, including hearings, must not be recorded, rebroadcast or transmitted, including by taking a photograph, screenshot, audio and/or visual recording. This includes posting on social media. Offences apply. Refer to the full Terms of Use.
