JB Hi-Fi Group Proceeding (Class Action)

This is a group proceeding (class action) brought on behalf of persons who purchased extended warranties (also called Extended Care, Extra Care or Customer Care) from JB Hi-Fi Group Pty Ltd (JB Hi-Fi) between 1 January 2011 and 8 December 2023.  

It is alleged that JB Hi-Fi engaged in misleading or deceptive conduct, or unconscionable conduct, by representing to consumers purchasing goods from them that the extended warranties offered longer coverage and additional benefits to the statutory guarantees that consumers already had under the Australian Consumer Law. 

The plaintiff and group members seek compensation for purchasing the extended warranties which they allege were of little or negligible value. 

JB Hi-Fi denies the substance of the claims against it. 

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT OPTING OUT

If you are, or you think that you may be a group member, you should read the documents below carefully. 

The Notice to Group Members contains important information about your rights to: 

(1) opt out of the proceeding; or 
(2) do nothing.

If you do not want to participate in the JB Hi-Fi Class Action and you are a group member, you must opt out by 4:00pm (AEST) on 29 May 2026. 
To opt out, you must complete the online opt out notice.

If you want to participate in the JB Hi-Fi Class Action, you do not need to do anything right now.
If you do nothing, you will remain a group member of the JB Hi-Fi Class Action and will be bound by any settlement or judgment of the proceeding.
