Proceedings in the Supreme Court brought by the Chief Commissioner of Police (Chief Commissioner) against the Herald and Weekly Times Pty Ltd (HWT) have concluded. Due to the public interest the Court has made documents contained within the court files for these matters available via the web portal, below.

In proceeding S CI 2014 01537, the Chief Commissioner sought to restrain HWT from publishing the identity of the person known as Lawyer X, information that person provided to Victoria Police and the terms of their agreement with Victoria Police. The parties agreed by consent to orders prohibiting the publication of that information.

In proceeding S CI 2015 01074, the Chief Commissioner sought and obtained a suppression order to restrain HWT from publishing certain details contained in the Independent Broad-Based Anti-Corruption Commission's report on Victoria Police's management of human sources (police informants).

In proceeding S CI 2017 00809, the Chief Commissioner sought injunctive relief and suppression orders against HWT. The Chief Commissioner discontinued that proceeding.

The Court has ordered that some documents be made available only in a redacted form. Accordingly, the Court is providing access to documents in its files on the condition that they are not altered. The Court has also ordered that some documents are to be kept confidential and those documents will not be made available.

Access to the available documents is only possible via the portal, with a username and password.
